VMware 在 shared storage 進行vMotion ?

vSphere 5.1之後, VMware vMotion 不在需要在shared storage上面進行…

 

VMware 一些名詞小記:

vMotion :

將虛擬機從一部實體伺服器移至另一部，而不需要停機，同時保持網路身分識別及與VMware vMotion

即時移轉的連線, ESX server不須share storage即可對VM vMotion,

 

VMware vSphere Storage vMotion 改善儲存裝置管理，並跨不同的儲存陣列類型自動化虛擬機移轉程序。

 

Live Migration : Hyper-V 功能

 

Vmware HA : 一台ESX掛掉時, 另一台可用的ESX Server可以接上

 

Vmware SRM : 安裝在VMware VirtualCenter上的外掛程式，搭配儲存廠商提供的

             Storage Replication Adapter（SRA）軟體，便可與底層的儲存設備溝通，

             完成災難復原的程序。

             VM DR site, 災害自動復原機制

 

Vmware FT : Vmware HA 的加強版, 類似vMotion, 但一台ESX 只能保護四個虛擬機,

            每個虛擬機只能分配1 vCPU

 

Vmware DRS : 負載平衡, 監控每台ESX的CPU, RAM資源, 選擇合適的主機建立新VM

             VMwareDRS將VMotion及HA技術融合在一起，根據ESX主機的CPU或內存資源負載，

             動態地遷移虛擬機至較負載較輕的ESX主機上，

             期間可以利用DRS建議，把一臺ESX主機的上多個虛擬機放置在不同ESX主機上。

You can in vsphere 5.1

vSphere 5.1 vMotion now removes the shared storage requirement for live migration and allows combining traditional vMotion and Storage vMotion into one operation. The combined migration copies both the virtual machine memory and its disk over the network to the destination vSphere host.
